South Carolina’s water and wastewater utilities are facing a serious workforce shortage. Many current operators are approaching retirement, and utilities across the state need to hire and train the next generation to keep water and wastewater systems running.
A big part of the problem is visibility. The water industry has long operated below the public radar, quietly providing essential services that communities depend on every day. Most people never think about where their water comes from or where it goes after it goes down the drain, so many students, educators, and job seekers don’t know these careers exist.
SC Water Careers was created to change that: connecting people to real information about water careers and connecting utilities to the next generation of water professionals.
